Shakespeare and the Law    NEW!

Shakespeare's works are replete with references to the law; its institutions, Inns of Court and Chancery; and with depictions of its officers ranging from the austere Lord Chief Justice of Henry IV to the blunderingly hilarious Constable Dogberry of Much Ado About Nothing. We will look at the language of the law in familiar selections from Shakespeare's poetry and plays, and flesh them out in their dramatic and historical contexts. Whence and why, for example - "The first thing we do, let's kill all the lawyers."
