Sterling Silver Graceful Christmas Tree Earrings with Denny NEW!

Just in time for the Christmas season, Sterling Silver Graceful Christmas Tree Earrings.  These gracefully-curved dangle earrings are made from hammer formed wires.   Hanging just 1 ½ inches in length, these earrings are understated and beautiful.  Students will have the option to make long or short ear wires to accommodate their preferred overall length.  

These earrings are simple yet elegant and can be worn from dressed up to dressed down. Hung from handmade sterling silver ear wires.  The hammered facets on the silver reflects and bounces light with each movement of your head. Supply fee: $25

Note: Please be aware that this class requires a certain amount of hand strength and manual dexterity. It is important to know your limitations.

Cold-Connected Jewelry: No Torch

This class is open to beginning and returning students. In this 3-day class, students will use many of the tools and techniques employed by traditional metalsmiths: Jewelers’ saws, files, drills, flexshafts, and hammers. Students can expect to learn techniques to join metals to various other materials, capture stones and found objects using a variety of cold connections such as rivets, tabs and wires.


Note: For safety reasons, please wear closed toe shoes and no loose clothing. Longhair should be tied back. This class requires a certain level of manual dexterity and hand strength. Please be aware of your limitations before registering for this class.

Large Gemstone Wire Wrapped Tree of Life

In this class, we will make a larger 10 inch tree of life suitable for wall or window. This tree will not only incorporate gemstones put a myriad of other objects as well so as to create a tree truly full of life with birds and animals. The Tree of Life is a powerful symbol of family, renewal and growth. In this course the student will learn the skills needed to complete a wire wrapped Tree of Life with gemstone "leaves," and birds and animals. 
We will also discuss how to utilize these same skills to create larger pieces suitable for hanging. This piece can be completed within 2 hours. Some tools, such as pliers and nippers will be provided by the instructor.

Intro to Metalsmithing

In this intensive skills-based class, you will be introduced to many jewelry making techniques and tools.  Learn basic soldering that can be done with a simple kitchen creme brulee torch. Meet the jewelers’ saw, flex-shaft, and learn basic finishing techniques such as filing, sanding and polishing. Practice adding textures to metals, forging with a hammer, as well as, learning the basic elements needed for successful soldering. Students will work with sterling silver, copper, brass, bronze and a  variety of semiprecious stones. The emphasis will be on skills-building and safety in the studio.

For safety: Please wear cotton clothing, no loose-fitting clothes. Please wear closed-toe shoes. Long hair must be  pulled back.

Intermediate Metalsmithing: Fused Silver Jewelry

In this Intermediate level class, students will learn the art of fusing silver pieces together only using a torch without the benefit of solder. As they work, they will create a structure and begin adding layers of silver sheet or wire to be fused until their piece is fully designed and functional.

They will add bails or jump rings or even create a ring!  Students will learn the process of depletion gilding to remove any fire scale and finally they will make design choices regarding their surface textures. This is a fast-paced class with intense learning opportunities. Take your skills to the next level and learn to control the torch and “read” the metal.

I'm Feeling Wired- Earring Challenge

During this day of play, students will fashion several pairs of earrings using sterling silver wire and an assortment of beads. Students will use hammers to flatten or texturize wires, learn how to integrate hooks into their designs to make secure earrings, and add spirals and fluid curves. Ear wires are integrated right into the design!

Wire Wrapped and Beaded Silver Earrings

Learn how to use a fine wire to add beautiful beaded accents to sterling silver dangle earrings. Students will use hammers, files, saws (if needed) and flex shafts to create these pretty little earrings.  Students will texturize their metal and finish their surfaces before adding their beaded  elements.  You will learn how to drill holes to securely add the beads to their designs.

Note: Plan to make 1-2 pairs of earrings and ear wires. For safety reasons, please wear closed toe shoes and no loose clothing. Long hair should be tied back. Intermediate Metalsmithing: Let's Make Spinner Rings

Spinner rings are truly fun and beautiful. They are the ultimate fidget toy and in this class you will learn how to make your own. This is an Intermediate level class and it is open to students who have completed Introduction to Metalsmithing.

Students will learn how to fashion their flat, wide band from sheet metal that they can texturize and modify. They will then use various wires to make the spinning bands  that are the perfect fit so that they will spin freely. Finally, students will learn how to capture the inner wires! With just the flick of your finger, these bands will sing as they spin round and round. Spinner rings are the ultimate de-stressor and a perfect fashion statement.
