Students will use hammers to flatten or texturize wires, learn how to integrate hooks into their designs to make secure earrings, and add spirals and fluid curves. In this intensive, skills-based class, you will learn many jewelry-making techniques and how to use tools. Learn basic soldering that can be done with a simple kitchen creme brulee torch. Meet the jewelers’ saw, flex-shaft, and learn basic finishing techniques such as filing, sanding and polishing.
Practice adding textures and dimension to metals, forging with a hammer, as well as, gaining the proper skills necessary for successful soldering. Students will work primarily with, copper, brass, and bronze, as well as a variety of semiprecious stones. The emphasis will be on skills-building and safety in the studio. This is a fun and fast-paced class. You will be amazed at what you will able to accomplish in this class. Learn to solder with a Creme Brulee torch, add textures using commonplace items, and learn about design elements all while creating jewelry.

Learn how to use a fine wire to add beautiful beaded accents to sterling silver dangle earrings. Students will use hammers, files, saws (if needed) and flex shafts to create these pretty little earrings. Students will texturize their metal and finish their surfaces before adding their beaded elements. You will learn how to drill holes to securely add the beads to their designs.
Note: Plan to make 1-2 pairs of earrings and ear wires. For safety reasons, please wear closed toe shoes and no loose clothing. Long hair should be tied back. Spinner rings are truly fun and beautiful. They are the ultimate fidget toy and in this class you will learn how to make your own. This is an Intermediate level class and it is open to students who have completed Introduction to Metalsmithing.
Students will learn how to fashion their flat, wide band from sheet metal that they can texturize and modify. They will then use various wires to make the spinning bands that are the perfect fit so that they will spin freely. Finally, students will learn how to capture the inner wires! With just the flick of your finger, these bands will sing as they spin round and round. Spinner rings are the ultimate de-stressor and a perfect fashion statement.

In this Intermediate level class, students will learn the art of fusing silver pieces together only using a torch without the benefit of solder. As they work, they will create a structure and begin adding layers of silver sheet or wire to be fused until their piece is fully designed and functional.
They will add bails or jump rings or even create a ring! Students will learn the process of depletion gilding to remove any fire scale and finally they will make design choices regarding their surface textures. This is a fast-paced class with intense learning opportunities. Take your skills to the next level and learn to control the torch and “read” the metal.
