This involves scams, frauds, identity theft, contractors, etc. Learn about ways to protect yourself, as well as to hear about current problems and examples. Self-Defense for Women

Hosted by the Marion County Sheriff's Office, this Rape Aggression Defense (R.A.D.) Systems program is a realistic, self-defense tactic and technique class. R.A.D. is a comprehensive course for women, which begins with awareness, risk-reduction, and avoidance. This course progresses with hands-on defense training.

Note: R.A.D. Policy states that all attendees must attend each session consecutively without missing any other section, and attendees cannot attend consecutive sessions if any prior session is missed.

American Heart Association Hands-Only CPR

Students of all ages can benefit from learning Hands-Only CPR in 3 Easy Steps. Learn how to utilize the skills you learn in a cardiac emergency and make a difference in someone’s life. Participation in practicing compressions is optional and there are no breaths given in Hands-Only CPR. We will review the proper use of AEDS and discuss other options for emergency situations. No prior CPR experience required. Please note this is NOT a certification class.

Citizens Prosecutor Academy

 

The Academy provides citizens a look at the criminal justice system from the perspective of a prosecutor. Participants hear directly from attorneys, judges and subject matter experts on several topics including the criminal justice system, the jury trial process, forensics, crimes against children, homicide investigations, and problem-solving courts, among others. This six-week enriching program allows participants to gain insight into our operations alongside and hear from our partners at the Judiciary and the Sheriff's Office. This group will meet weekly on Tuesdays. There is no cost to citizens of Citrus, Hernando, Lake, Marion, and Sumter counties. No recording devices allowed.

Active Shooter Basic Training for Citizens

Please join Jonathan Miller, from On Top Of The World/Colen Built Development, in this very informative class for "Active Shooter” presentation, which was presented by the “ALICE” Training Institute." This class will provide you with the knowledge and skills to enhance your survival should you become the unfortunate victim of a violent intruder scenario. Jonathan is a certified active shooter instructor." The acronym for "ALICE" stands for (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate). This class provides an instructor led class that provides preparation and a plan for individuals and organizations on how to more proactively handle the threat of an aggressive or violent intruder or active shooter event. Whether it is an attack by an individual person or by an international group of professionals intent on conveying a political message through violence, ALICE Training option based tactics have become the accepted response, versus the traditional "lockdown only" approach.
