Learn about the history and beauty of Ocala's best kept secret. Water is a valued commodity, especially here in Florida. Learn more about the complexities of water procurement here at On Top of the World as well as water treatment and waste water disposal. Join staff on this behind-the-scenes tour of our facilities. Limited to 13 students; registration is required. The bus leaves at 9:00 AM but you need to check in first at Master the Possibilities Education Center (please bring drinking water).

Energy Efficiency in Construction

Join us for a presentation from our very own construction team to learn about the techniques and features of homes built at On Top of the World. Learn about all construction stages, as well as exactly what the HERS, Energy Star and Florida Water Star rating entails. Students will meet the instructor at the MTP building and then drive to the model row homesite.

Exploring the Ecology of Silver Springs State Park

Enjoy a morning at Silver Springs State Park learning about the natural and cultural/historical resources of the area. Group will meet at the archway (main entrance off Rt 40) by no later than 9 a.m. Participants will spend the morning with a Park Ranger to learn about the importance of the Silver River, starting near the head spring.
After a Glass Bottom Boat tour, they will walk along the Ross Allen Boardwalk and Blue Trail to take a tram ride (uncushioned) through the Sandhill Natural Community, with the last stop at the Silver River Museum. After the museum, they will tram back to the main entrance. Participants should wear comfortable walking shoes and must be able to walk at least one mile, some on uneven ground.

Cost includes: park ranger tour, glass bottom boat ride, and tram ride. Students will drive to the location and meet at the Entry Arch to Silver Springs State Park by no later than 9 a.m. using the following address: 5656 East Silver Springs Blvd, Silver Springs FL 34488

Backstage Tour at Circle Square Cultural Center

Circle Square Cultural Center (CSCC) brings world-class performers to an 930-seat entertainment venue in Ocala, FL. Each event on the schedule involves a tremendous amount of planning and preparation. Come behind the scenes with Gary Pierre, Jessica Marshall and Gary Manges to see the "green" rooms, where performers do make-up and costuming. Learn about the front of the house and backstage equipment management. The team shares information about how shows are booked, sometimes years in advance, and what it takes to bring a group to the CSCC stage. Tour of the Ocala Fire Museum

This museum offers a fascinating glimpse into the city's history with an impressive collection of fire related memorabilia. Thousands of items are on display including a segment of 9/11 World Trade Center steel, antique fire extinguishers, early medical equipment, a life net, fire alarm boxes, firefighting uniforms, a collection of international fire helmets and so much more. Learn about the devastating Thanksgiving Day Fire of 1883, why fire uniforms are blue in color, and other interesting information during this guided tour.

Registered students meet at: 615 NW Martin Luther King Jr. Ave, Ocala FL 34475. Parking is available for the Ocala Fire Museum near the police station or the fire station. The first responder complex is located just north of the railroad track and Madison Street Elementary school.

Behind the Scenes at The Marion County Courthouse

Join us for a tour of the Marion County Courthouse where you will hear from participants in the judicial system including State Attorney Bill Gladson, judges, attorneys, and the Marion County Sheriff's Office. Participants will meet at 10 am at the State Attorney's Office on the fifth floor of the Marion County Courthouse located at 110 NW 1st Ave, Suite 5000, Ocala.
