Carnivorous and Poisonous Plants with Maxine Hunter
Discover how carnivorous plants capture insects to supplement the nutrients they cannot obtain from the nutrient-poor soils in which they grow. Participants will also uncover some of the surprising truths behind poisonous plants found in gardens, forests, and even their own landscapes.
Through engaging discussion and vivid visual examples, this presentation will separate fact from fiction while encouraging a greater appreciation for these extraordinary members of the plant kingdom.
The experience will include a brief walk through Sholom Park to identify examples of poisonous plants growing within the landscape.
Take-Home Plant: Each attendee will receive a small carnivorous plant to take home following the program.

Movie Night - Little Shop of Horrors
Celebrate the fall season with an outdoor screening of the beloved musical comedy Little Shop of Horrors beneath the stars at Sholom Park.
The film follows Seymour, a shy flower shop employee whose unusual plant brings him unexpected fame, fortune, and more than a little trouble. Filled with catchy songs, unforgettable characters, and delightfully spooky humor, Little Shop of Horrors has become a Halloween favorite.
Gates open at 6pm with the movie starting at 7pm. No entry after 7:15pm.
Concessions will be available for purchase during the evening.

Mother Tree: How Trees Communicate with Maxine Hunter
Discover the remarkable hidden world beneath the forest floor and explore how trees interact in ways that continue to reshape our understanding of nature. Rather than functioning as thousands of independent organisms competing for survival, forests form complex living communities.
Learn how trees, fungi, bacteria, and soil create interconnected relationships that can be both cooperative and competitive. These underground networks can help trees exchange nutrients, respond to environmental challenges, and support younger trees growing nearby.
This presentation offers a closer look at the concept of the “mother tree” and the important role mature trees may play within a forest community. Participants will gain a greater appreciation for the intricate relationships that help forests grow, adapt, and survive.

Building a Sholom Park Time Capsule of Hope with Lori Szepelak
As America concludes its 250th anniversary celebration, join us at Sholom Park for a meaningful community experience centered on reflection, creativity, and hope. Surrounded by the park's peaceful natural beauty, participants will help preserve a snapshot of life today for future generations.
Write a letter, share a favorite memory, compose a poem, include a cherished recipe, create a drawing, make a prediction for the future, or contribute anything else that captures this moment in time. Every submission will become part of Sholom Park's community time capsule.
The time capsule will be carefully sealed and opened 50 years from now, offering future visitors a remarkable glimpse into our lives, dreams, and aspirations. Together, we'll celebrate our shared history while creating a lasting legacy of hope for those who follow.
Community Experience: Every participant is invited to contribute a personal keepsake, message, or creative work to be preserved in the Sholom Park Time Capsule and rediscovered 50 years from now.

Moonlight Reflections: A Crystal Singing Bowl Sound Bath
Close the year in peace, stillness, and reflection during this special moonlight experience at Sholom Park. As the gentle sounds of crystal singing bowls resonate beneath the evening sky, allow yourself to slow down, reconnect with nature, and prepare your heart and mind for the year ahead.
Led by Misty Frye, this immersive experience combines guided meditation with the soothing vibrations of crystal singing bowls to encourage deep relaxation, mindfulness, and inner calm. Participants will also have an opportunity to reflect on the past year with gratitude, release what no longer serves them, and set meaningful intentions for the future.
The evening concludes with a symbolic Luminaries on the Pond ceremony. After writing a word, intention, or personal reflection, participants will gently release a floating luminary onto the water, creating a beautiful display of light representing hope, healing, renewal, and new beginnings.
Gates open at 5:00 pm. The sound bath begins at 6:00 pm, followed by the luminary ceremony. No entry after 6:15 pm. No food truck will be available for this event.
