As American as apple pie? How about as American as beer? Much better.

Indigenous people were brewing beer long before the pilgrims landed on Plymouth Rock. Oh, and why did the pilgrims land there? Beer. Actually, the impending lack thereof caused a bit of a detour to the original plan.

Our country is a melting pot of nationalities, ethnicities, and cultures, and our food and drink reflects this wide-ranging composition. We'll explore the development of beer as it weaves through the history of America, and, of course, there will be samples.

Explore how different cask types shape a whisky’s character. This course introduces the influence of cask finishing on aroma and flavor, showing how distillers use various woods and previous contents to create unique profiles. Single Malt Scotch Whisky - Vertical Tasting within the Same Distillery NEW!

Whisky maturation by distillery offers an opportunity to appreciate the changes in flavor associated with the aging process. Participants will sample three single malt whiskies from the same distillery beginning with a 12-year-old, then progressing to a 15-year-old and concluding with an 18-year-old expression. Participants will have a chance to describe, contrast and rate each expression. This course will include a tasting of three-one-ounce single malt scotch whiskies.

To appreciate the diversity of Scotland’s environment requires tasting single malts from different regions. A perennial runner up to California, Washington State produces some of the best quality/value wines available in our market. Let's learn what makes their wines unique and sample a variety of their northern "juice." Lecture and Wine Tasting of Washington State wines. Lecture and testing.

Note: Students must 21 or older and bring a wine glass to the class.

This course will include a tasting of up to 9 1.5-ounce tastings of various wines. All registered participants are fully aware alcohol will be distributed in the classroom for possible consumption and will accept full responsibility for transportation to and from the classroom.

Summer is approaching, and we must pivot our focus to wines that highlight the season. This session will explore wines optimized for the summer time. Sunscreen not required! Lecture and tasting of wines optimized for summer enjoyment.
