Do you have arthritis, osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis? Come join us for joint specific related exercises done in the warm water of the Ranch indoor pool. The exercises are approved by the Arthritis Foundation for an aquatic workout and each participant will get a handout of the 65 exercises used during the class. Learn how to move those painful joints through their full range of motion gently with the aid of the water. No swimming skill required as this is a shallow water class.

Note: Students need to bring a bathing suit, change of clothes and towel for class. This class is being held at The Ranch Fitness Center & Spa.

Join this discussion with Dr. CJ Liu on September 19 at 2 p.m. to learn more about this subject and hear why your living environment plays such a key role on your health. Dr. Liu is a Professor of Occupational Therapy at the University of Florida. She specializes in education and research in the healthy aging field. Her goal is to identify factors to increase older adults’ functional ability, which is the capacity that enables individuals to be and do what provides value to their lives. Her expertise includes health literacy promotion, late-life disability prevention and systematic reviews of interventions that support independence in activities of daily living for older adults. At the conclusion of this presentation, you will have the opportunity to participate in a survey supporting Dr. Liu’s current research on  healthy aging.

In this lecture and interactive class, you'll learn what causes our joints to become stiff, painful and limited and techniques you can use to combat these issues. You'll practice a routine that you can easily repeat at home and be introduced to equipment that helps facilitate better movement in your body. Lack of balance is not just about falls, it also limits our agility which decreases our athletic ability.  Up to 50% of older adults have balance issues which negatively impacts a healthy, active lifestyle.  Come learn how to restore your balance and get back to giving your best, doing what you enjoy most.

Aqua Tabata is a high intensity interval  training (HIIT) class. The workout has timed intervals and short recovery time. The Tabata formula created by Isumi Tabata from Japan is: 20-seconds work and 10-seconds recovery time utilizing a four minute cycle. Each cycle includes four exercises which will be repeated twice for the four minute format. A total of six cycles will be worked in the class. The workout goal is to improve cardiovascular fitness and build muscle strength. The class will be held at the indoor pool at The Ranch. No swimming skills necessary.

Every 20 minutes a person dies from a fall. If you are 70 years of age or older, you are four times more likely to fall than the population as a whole. The water is a great environment to improve strength and to improve your balance. The class targets stabilizing muscles which will help keep you on your feet. The class starts with basic simple balance exercises and slowly progresses to more challenging movements. It is held in the indoor pool at The Ranch. No swimming skills necessary.
